A. Answer the following.

1. What does the poet see when the swing goes over the wall?

Ans: When the swing goes high over the wall, the poet sees rivers, trees, cattle, and “all over the countryside”.

2. Does the poet enjoy swings? Which lines tell us that? 

Ans: Yes, the poet enjoys swinging very much. The lines that tell us this are: “Oh, I do think it the most pleasant thing, / Ever a child can do!”.

3. “Up in the air so blue” – Why do you think the poet says the air is blue? 

Ans: The poet likely describes the air as blue because when swinging high up, the child looks directly into the blue sky.

B. Think and discuss.

1. Have you seen a swing? Where have you seen it? What was it made of?

Ans: I have seen a swing in a park or a garden. It was made of wood, plastic, or sometimes an old tyre tied with a rope.

2. What would you like to see when you are up in the air on a swing?

Ans: I would like to see birds flying, the tops of roofs, and the clouds.

  • The dance begins in an hour. (Here, dance is an event/noun)
  • My friends and I dance when we are happy. (Here, dance is an action/verb).

E. Word: waves 

  • The waves did not let us finish our sandcastle. (Here, waves refers to water/noun). 
  • She waves to her siblings while leaving for school. (Here, waves is an action/verb).

A. Your teacher will read out the poem again. Listen carefully and make a list of words that rhyme. You may add two more words of your choice as well.
