WB Board
The West Bengal Board refers to two major educational authorities in the state: the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE). Together, these boards manage the curriculum, examinations, academic supervision, and overall development of Class 10 and Class 12 education across West Bengal. Known for their strong academic standards, both boards play a crucial role in shaping the educational future of lakhs of students every year.
WBBSE, established in 1951, is responsible for conducting the Madhyamik Pariksha (Class 10). The board designs the syllabus, prescribes textbooks, and ensures that teaching and evaluation follow modern academic practices. It also releases model papers, sample question sets, and blueprints to help students understand the exam pattern and prepare with confidence.
On the other hand, WBCHSE, formed in 1975, conducts the Higher Secondary (HS) examination for Class 12 in Science, Commerce, and Arts streams. The council regularly updates its curriculum to meet current educational needs, promotes practical-based learning, and introduces reforms that help students build strong academic foundations for higher education and competitive exams.
Both WBBSE and WBCHSE have taken major steps toward digitalization. Online registration, digital admit cards, e-results, and automated evaluation systems have made exam processes more transparent and efficient. Schools under the WB Board focus on conceptual learning, discipline, cultural education, and overall personality development.
