1. What are the causes of landform development?

Ans: The Earth’s landforms develop under the influence of both internal and external forces.

Internal forces originate from within the Earth, such as tectonic movements, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. These create mountains, valleys, and other land structures.

External forces act from outside the Earth and include rivers, wind, glaciers, and biological factors. They cause erosion, transportation, and deposition, shaping features like river valleys, beaches, and sand dunes. Thus, landform development results from the combined action of internal and external forces.

2. What is Weathering and how does it occur?

Ans: Weathering is the process of breaking down rocks into smaller fragments by physical, chemical, and biological means.Physical weathering happens due to temperature changes, frost, or mechanical stress.Chemical weathering occurs when rocks react with water, gases, or acids, altering their composition.Biological weathering results from plant roots and microorganisms breaking rocks apart. This process gradually weakens the rocks, creating soil and modifying the landscape.
