(a)  What is Home Science? Give the meaning of Home Science?

Ans: Home Science is also known as “family life education and education for family living” as it gives information and knowledge on all aspects of family life and the fulfilment of different family needs and demands through proper utilization of available resources.

Home Science or the science of managing a home, includes all the things that concern. ourselves, our home, our family members and our resources.

(b) Give the importance of Home Science?

Ans: The present is an of science and technology With the rapid advancement of education and society, the importance of Home Science education has increased considerably. Home Science has been included as an important vocational subject in the curriculum of second- ary, higher secondary, under-graduate and post-graduate levels of education.

The importance of this education has been highlighted below:

(i) Home Science education provides knowledge to the students to tackle household problems, to undertake family responsibilities and to do creative work in an effective manner.

(ii) Through the study of Home Science, students acquire scientific and technological knowledge to become self-sufficient, self-reliant and professional. Moreover, it helps to develop the skills to work through scientific methods by properly utilising labour, energy and time.

(iii) Through Home Science education, one can learn the necessary skills to manage family resources through different managerial processes like planning, control-ling and evaluation.

(iv) With the help of this education, students can impart knowledge and training to the needy people outside schools and colleges in an informal way on any subject related to home and family life and can take part in community development.

(v) Through this education students can participate in various social activities in association with different socio-cultural organization and programmes.

(vi) Home Science education provides knowledge to stu-dents to achieve their goals through proper utilisation of human and non-human resources.

(vii) Through Home Science education, students become conscious of maintaining their personal health and learn the ways of maintaining good health.

(viii) With the help of this education the students are able to select any component of Home Science at the post graduate level according to their preference and interest to seek a vocation. For example, they can engage themselves in textile designing, food production, interior decoration, as an extension worker, dietician, teacher and researchers.

(ix) With the knowledge of Home Science, the students can become effective home makers and earning members of the family.

(c) What are the objectives of Home Science? Mention them briefly.

Ans: The objectives of Home Science are mentioned below: 

(i) To furnish the student with knowledge for a happy, healthy and systematic family life.

(ii) To help the students in unfolding their qualities and capacities in manifold ways.

(iii) To help the students in overcoming the different family problems and making decisions for solving them.

(iv) To teach how to utilise the family resources skillfully with a scientific approach.

(v) To help in improving the condition of family and society as well as in economic, social, moral, cultural and spiritual aspect.

(vi) To help in establishing a good relationship amongst friends, relatives, neighbours and other persons of the society.

(vii) To impart knowledge in order to make the students aware of their duties and responsibilities towards their home, family, society and the country as a whole.

(viii) To make the students conscious of customs, traditions, culture and values of life in the society.

(ix) To help them to achieve their individual and family goals.

(x) To assist the students to develop healthy attitudes towards social work and extension activities and encour- age them to take part in social welfare.
