Long Questions and Answers

Ans: To safely handle electricity at home, I must follow several important guidelines. I should always use government-approved gadgets that have an ISI mark and ensure that MCBs are installed at the main switchboard. I must never touch electric switches with moist hands or operate any gadget without wearing rubber slippers or shoes. If I notice any sparking, the heated sockets and switches must be changed immediately. Furthermore, I should never try to repair electrical gadgets myself unless I am properly trained, and if there is an electrical fire, I must always use dry sand to douse it.
2. Explain the procedure of giving CPR to an unconscious person.
Ans: If a person is unconscious and not breathing, I need to give them CPR immediately to save their life. First, to maintain Circulation, I will draw an imaginary line between the person’s nipples, place the heel of one hand over the center, put my other hand on top, and give chest compressions by pressing the breastbone down 1.5 to 2 inches. Second, for Breathing, I will open their airway by tilting their head backward and lifting their chin. Then, I will pinch their nose, place a handkerchief over their mouth, and give artificial mouth-to-mouth breathing. I must maintain a ratio of 30 chest compressions to 2 breaths per minute until medical help arrives.
3. What precautions must I keep in mind while taking medicines to avoid any harmful side effects?
Ans: I must always take medicines only when prescribed by a doctor and never practice self-medication. It is crucial to take the exact recommended dose at the prescribed intervals without minimizing or exceeding it. All medicines must be stored away from extreme temperature and sunlight, and strictly kept out of the reach of children. Before taking any medicine, I should always check its expiry date. If I experience any unusual symptoms, I need to visit the doctor immediately. Finally, I must complete the full course of the medicine for the entire duration prescribed so that the infection does not return.
4. Why are adolescents more vulnerable to substance abuse? Explain the main reasons.
Ans: Adolescents are more vulnerable to substance abuse due to several physical and psychological reasons. During the process of growing up, they often face performance pressures, poor self-esteem, or low achievement at school, causing stress that promotes substance abuse. Additionally, strong peer pressure and the curiosity to experiment with new things push many young people into trying addictive substances. A lack of support from family and friends, combined with a lack of knowledge about the actual dangers of these drugs, makes them even more vulnerable. Finally, the media glamorizing drug use and the easy availability of these substances easily mislead young people.
5. How does substance abuse affect an individual’s long-term health, and how does it impact the community?
Ans: In the long term, constant substance abuse causes progressive and serious damage to different body organs. It leads to irregular eating habits, sleep disorders, and poor hygiene, which results in low immunity and makes the person highly susceptible to dangerous infections like HIV/AIDS and STDs. It can even cause sudden death due to an overdose or total organ failure. Beyond personal health, it negatively affects the entire community because the addicted person loses interest in their responsibilities, school, or job, becoming a burden to their family. To afford their expensive drug habits on a regular basis, addicted individuals may also be forced to engage in severe crimes, increasing violence in society.
