Ans: The guru realised that the king and the minister made unreasonable decisions, making it impossible to predict their actions or expect justice.

2. How did the disciple benefit from staying in the kingdom?

Ans: The disciple enjoyed unlimited cheap food every day, which made him grow very fat.

3. Why did the thief’s brother approach the king?

Ans: The thief’s brother wanted the king to punish the person responsible for the wall that collapsed and caused his brother’s death.

4. How did the blame shift from one person to another during the trial?

Ans: Each accused person explained that someone else’s actions had caused the problem, leading the king to summon another person instead.

5. Why was the merchant finally sentenced to death?

Ans: The king believed that since the merchant had inherited everything from his father, he had also inherited responsibility for the crime.

6. Why was the disciple selected for execution instead of the merchant?

Ans: The merchant was too thin for the execution stake, so the king ordered that a fat man who fitted the stake should be executed instead.

7. How did the guru rescue his disciple?

8. What changes took place in the kingdom after the guru became the ruler?

Ans: The guru restored the normal order of day and night, removed the foolish laws, and made the kingdom function sensibly.

D. Long Answer Questions

1. Describe the unusual rules introduced by the king and explain how they affected the lives of the people.

Ans: The foolish king ordered everyone to remain awake throughout the night and sleep during the day. Business, farming, and all daily activities had to be carried out only after sunset. Anyone who disobeyed faced the death penalty. The people obeyed these strange orders out of fear rather than choice. The rules disturbed normal life and reflected the king’s lack of wisdom.

2. Explain how the king’s method of delivering justice reveals his foolishness.

Ans: Instead of carefully examining facts, the king accepted every excuse without proper reasoning and kept shifting the blame from one person to another. The merchant blamed the bricklayer, the bricklayer blamed the dancing girl, the dancing girl blamed the goldsmith, and the goldsmith blamed the merchant again. Finally, the king even chose an innocent fat man for execution simply because he fitted the stake. His decisions show complete absence of logic and fairness.

3. Narrate how the guru used wisdom and intelligence to save the disciple from execution.

Ans: After reaching the place of execution, the guru secretly advised the disciple and then insisted that he should be executed first. The disciple also demanded the same privilege. Their unusual behaviour confused the king. The guru then invented a story that the first person executed on the new stake would be reborn as the next king and the second as the next minister. Believing this, the foolish king and his minister secretly took the disciple’s place and were executed instead, saving both the guru and the disciple.

4. Compare the attitudes of the guru and the disciple towards the Kingdom of Fools.

Ans: The guru was wise, experienced, and quickly understood that a kingdom ruled by foolish people could never be safe. Therefore, he decided to leave immediately. The disciple, however, was attracted by cheap food and ignored his guru’s advice. His greed eventually placed him in danger. The story shows that wisdom and foresight are more valuable than temporary comforts.

5. What message does the story convey about wisdom, justice, and leadership?

Ans: The story teaches that rulers should be wise, fair, and logical while making decisions. Foolish leadership leads to confusion, injustice, and suffering for innocent people. It also highlights the importance of listening to wise advice and using intelligence to overcome difficult situations. The guru’s wisdom finally restores order and justice in the kingdom.
