5. Bijits has spent 3/5 part on purchasing copy and pen and 2/7 parts for geometry instrument box from the amount of money his mother gave him as pocket money and kept the rest in hand. Find the part of money left with Bijit and arrange the three parts in descending order.

Ans: Bijits has spent  3/5 part on purchasing copy and pen and 2/7 parts for geometry instrument box.

∴ Total cost = 3/5 + 2/7

= 3 × 7 + 2 × 5/35 = 21 + 10/35 = 31/35 part

∴ The part of money left with bjits = 1 – 31/35

= 35 – 31/35 = 4/35 part

Now, 3/5 = 3 × 7/5 × 7 = 21/35

2/7 = 2 × 5/7 × 5 = 10/35

∴ The three parts in descending order

3/5 > 2/7 > 4/35

6. Shyamalee reads 5 3/4 hours everyday. Out of it she spends 2/5 part in studying Mathematics and English, 1/6 part for in Science and rest in studying other subjects. Find out her different study times and arrange them in ascending order.

Ans: 2/5 part in studying Mathematics and English 1/6 part for in Science

∴ Total part = 2/5 + 1/6 = 12 + 7/30 = 17/30

∴ Spends in studying others subjects = 1 – 17/30 = 30 -17/30 = 13/30

∴ Ascending order: 1/6 < 2/5 < 13/30

7. In school competition of ‘Model Reading’ Utpal completed 5/6 parts of the allotted portion in 3 minutes and Runjun completed 10/11 parts of the allotted page in the sametime. Who read more?

Ans: ‘Utpal completed 5/6 parts of the allotted portion in 3 minutes and Runjun completed 10/11 parts of the allotted page in the sametime.

∴ Runjun read more.

8. Rita read 3/5 part of a short story book of 75 pages. How many pages of the book are left to read

Ans: Left part of a short book = 1 – 3/5 = 5-3/5 = 2/5

∴ Number of pages of the book are left to read

= 75 pages of 2/5

9. A man has 200 within. He paid one fifth of the amount as bus fare. How much amount was left with him?

Ans: A man has Rs. 200 with him

Bus fare = 1/5 of Rs.200

= Rs. 1/5 × 200

= 40

∴ Amount was left with him = Rs. 200 – 40 = Rs.160

10. Each of the two water tanks in Ranjus house contain 500 litres of water in the morning. 3/5 parts of water of one tank was used for bathing and washing and 1/4 parts of the water of the other tank was used for cooking. What was the total water remaining in the two tanks?

Ans: 3/5 parts of water of one tank was used for bathing and washing and 1/4 parts of the water of the other tank was used for cooking.

∴ Total parts = 3/5 + 1/4 = 12 + 5/20 = 17/20

∴ left part = (1-17/20) = 20 – 27/20 = 3/20

∴ The total water remaining in the two tanks 

= 3/20 of 1000 liters 

= 3/20 × 1000 liters

= 150 liters

11. Bobita took 1/4 parts of the cake for eat. In the meantime her brother came and snatchedaway 2/5 from her. What part of the cake could Bobita eat?

Ans: Bobita took 1/4 parts of the cake for eat.

Her brother came and snatchedaway 2/5 from her part 

∴ Part of the cake Bobita eat

= (⅖ -1/4) part

= (8 – 5/20)

= 3/20 part

12. Out of ready made shirt in a shop 1/9 parts are white. 5/9 parts are blue and the rest are yellow. If the number of yellow shirts is 72. What are the number shirts of other varieties? What is the total number of shirts in the shop?

Ans: 1/9 part white and 5/9 part blue.

∵ Total part = 1/9 + 5/9 = 1 + 5/9 = 6/9 = 2/3

∴ Part of yellow = 1- 2/3 = 3 – 2/3 = 1/3

∴ According to question total readymade shirt × 1/3 = 72.

∴ Total number of readymade shirt (72 × 3) = 216

∴ Number of white shirts = (1/9 × 216) = 24

Number of blue shirts = (5/9 × 216) = 120

∴ Number of white shirts = 24

Number of blue shirts = 120

And total number of shirts = 216

(v) A car cover 240 km in 3 1/3 hours. How much distance will the car cover in 1 hour?

Ans: A car cover 240 km in 3 1/3 hours.

∴ The car covers in 1 hour = (240 ÷ 10/3) km

= 240 ÷ 10/3 km.

= 240 x 3/10km

= 72 km.

4. Area of a rectangle is 24 cm². If the length of the rectangle is 6 2/3 cm then what is the breadth?

Ans: We know that the area of a rectangle = length x breadth.

∴ 24 cm² = 623cm × breadth,

∴ Breadth = (24÷ 20/3)cm

= 24 × 20/3 = 18/5 Cm

= 3 3/5

5. A ribbon of 12 1/2 m long is divided into 10 equal parts. What is the length of its parts?

Ans: Length of each part = (12 1/2 ÷ 10) m

= (25/2 × 1/10)m

= 5/4 m = 1 1/4 m

6. 3/4 parts of a container is filled with water. If this volume of water then is divided equally into 1/8 parts, how many containers will be required to keep the whole volume of it?

Ans: Numbers of containers (3/4 ÷ 1/8)

7. How many 1/2 are there in 6/4? Illustrate with the help of a diagram.

Ans: 1/2 of a number = 6/4 ÷ 1/2 = 6/4 × 2 = 3

৪. An aeroplane covers 200 km in 1/5 hours. How far will it fly in 5 hours?

Ans: An aeroplane covers 200 km. in 1/5 hours.

∴ It will fly in 5 hours 

= (200 × 5 × 5) km 

= 5000 km.

9. A boy covers 5 1/8 km in 1 1/4 hours on a bicycle. if the boy maintains the same speed how far will he cover in 1 hour?

Ans: Boy covers 5 1/8 km in 1 1/4 hours on a bicycle.

∴ He will cover in 1 hour km = 5 1/8 ÷ 1 1/4 km 

= (41/8 ÷  5/4) km

= (41/8 ÷  5/4) km

= 41/10 k = 4 1/10 km.

10. Four options are given to the question below. Choose the correct answer-If A + B = 1 and A – B = 2/3, then the fractions A and B are- 

(i) A = 5/6, B = 3/6

(ii) A = 2/3, B = 1/3

∴ The length of the boundary wall = 68m.

5. A vehicle covers a distance of 150-5 km in 3-5 hours, How far vehicle will cover in 1 hour?

Ans: A vehicle covers a distance of 150 – 5 km in 3.5 hours.

∴ The vehicle will cover in 1 hour = 150.53.5

= 43 km.

6. Whole sale price of potato 10kg is Rs. 186-50. What is the price of 1 kg of potato?

Ans: Whole sale price of potato 10kg is Rs. 186.50. 

∴ The price of 1 kg of potato =186.50/10

= 18650/100 ÷ 10 Rs.

= 18650/1000 × 1/10 Rs.

= 18650/1000 = 18.650 = 18.65 Rs.

∴ The price of 1 kg of potato = 18.65 Rs.

7. Perimeter of a square shaped vegetable garden is 76.8m. What is the length of a side of the vegetable garden?

Ans: Perimeter of a square shaped vegetable garden is 76.8 m.

∴ Length of a side of the vegetable garden 76.84  m = 19.2m

৪. Breadth of a conference hall is 5-5 m and its area is 74-25 square metre (M²) What is the length of the conference hall?

Ans: Breadth of a conference hall is 5.5m and its area is 74.25 m²

∴ The length of the conference hall = 74.25/5.5 m = 13.5m
