GATE Online Form: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee has released the official notification for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025. GATE 2025 will be conducted for 30 subjects (also referred to as “papers”) and it would be distributed over 1st, 2nd and 15th, 16th February 2025. The examination would be purely a Computer Based Test (CBT).
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising of faculty members from IISc, Bangalore and other seven IIT’s on behalf of the National Coordinating Board, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development.
Purpose of GATE
- GATE is a mandatory requirement for admission and/or financial assistance to:
- Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture
- Doctoral programs in relevant fields of Arts and Science at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government bodies.
- Some institutions require GATE qualification even for admissions without MoE scholarship/assistance.
- Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) use GATE scores for shortlisting candidates for recruitment, such as:
- Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)
- Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL)
- Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)
- Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)
- National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)
- Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL)
- Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)
- Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL)
Additionally, recruitment to Group A level posts in Central Government departments like Senior Field Officer (Tele), Senior Research Officer (Crypto), and Senior Research Officer (S&T) in Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, is now based on GATE scores.

Eligibility Criteria For GATE Online Form
- Educational Qualification: Candidates who are currently in the 3rd or higher years of their undergraduate degree or those who have completed any government-recognized degree in Engineering /Technology /Science /Architecture /Humanities are eligible.
- Age Limit: There is no age limit to apply for GATE 2025.
