Observe pictures 1 and 2. In the pictures, children are pulling the buckets from the well. Can you tell the difference in both the pictures? Which would be easier – using the pulley or not using it to lift things?
1. Look around you – where all do you see the use of pulleys? List them.
Ans: We have seen a pulley in many places such as in houses used to lift the curtains up, in flower baskets to hold, in water wells to drop buckets into the wells, etc.
2. With the help of a pulley, try to lift various things, as shown in the picture.

3. How is this bridge different from a bamboo bridge?
Ans: A cement bridge is made up of bricks, cements and iron rods. But a bamboo bridge is made of bamboo sticks, ropes and poles.
4. How many people do you think can cross the bridge at one time? You have seen how children use different kinds of bridges, to cross rivers and other uneven areas to reach school.
Ans: More than 20 people can cross such a bridge as shown in the picture, at a time.
5. If you had a chance, which bridge would you like to use? Why?
Ans: I will choose a cement bridge because it is strong, durable, and can withstand heavy loads. Unlike bamboo, bridges are also comfortable and safe during bad weather conditions.
6. Do you have to cross any bridge on the way to your school? If yes, what is the bridge like? Draw a picture.

7. Find out from your grandparents, what kinds of bridges were there when they were young.
Is there any bridge near your house? Find out more about the bridge.
Ans: When my grandparents were young, during that time there were only wooden, stone and bamboo bridges.
Near my house there is a cement bridge. A strong, permanent bridge made of concrete, used for vehicles and daily transportation.
8. Where is the bridge – over water, over a road, between two mountains or somewhere else?
Ans: The bridge is over water.
9. Who all use the bridge? Is it used by people on foot and also by vehicles and animals?
Ans: The bridge is used by everyone, including people on foot, vehicles, and animals.
10. Does the bridge seem to be old or is it new?
Ans: The bridge is old.
11. Find out what materials are used in making this bridge. List some of them.
Ans: The materials that are used in making this bridge are cement, iron rods, bricks, steel, stones, etc.
12. Draw a picture of the bridge in your notebook. Do not forget to draw the train, vehicles, animals or people who cross the bridge.

13. Imagine what difficulties there would be, if the bridge was not there?
Ans: If there were no bridge, it would be very difficult to cross the river, valleys, mountains or irregular roads. Crossing them would have consumed a lot of time and would be risky too.

Ans: Yes, there are many different types of boats, including paddle boats, motor boats, houseboats, and cargo ships.

Ans: Here are the names of different kinds of vessels that are used to travel on water: yacht, boat, canoe, ship, steamer, schooner.
3. Have you ever sat in a camel-cart or horse carriage (tonga)? Where? Did you climb on it yourself, or did someone help you?
Ans: Yes, I have sat in a horse carriage at my Grandmother’s place in Rajasthan. My Grandfather helped me to climb on it as my height was small.
4. How did you feel riding in the cart? Also share your experience in the class also.
Ans: Yes, riding in the cart feels very joyful. It is a fun and peaceful experience.
5. Do you have bullock-carts where you live?
Ans: No, But i have seen bullock – carts in my grandmother’s village.
6. Does it have a roof?
Ans: Yes. It has a beautiful roof.
7. What kind of wheels do they have?
Ans: Bullock carts usually have large, wooden wheels with iron rims.
8. Make a drawing of the cart in your notebook.

9. Can you ride a bicycle? If yes, who taught you to ride?
Ans: Yes, My father taught me to ride a bicycle.
10. How many children come on bicycles to your school?
Ans: About 100 children come on bicycles to our school.
11. Have you ever been in a thick jungle or any such place?
Ans: No.

Ans: I have never been in a thick jungle, but it seems scary. The thought of tall trees, wild animals, and strange sounds makes it both exciting and frightening.
13. Can you recognise some birds by their sounds? Can you imitate the sounds of some birds? Do it.

14. Have you ever seen so much snow? Where? In films or somewhere else?
Ans: Yes, I have seen so much snow in films.
15. Do you think that such places have snow all the time? Why?
Ans: Snow forms when water in the atmosphere becomes frozen. Yes, I even have seen most snow throughout winters, during winters, the hilly regions are covered with snow. We regularly see such places in films and the Discovery channel.
16. Do you face difficulties on the way to your school?
Ans: Yes, I have to cross a bridge on the way to my school and it is made up of iron and cement.
17. Which is the best month, in which you like to go to school? Why?
Ans: I love getting to school within the month of December due to the atmospheric condition. The varsity timings are comfortable during this month. Various celebrations like Christmas and year are held in our school throughout this month. Also, the month ends with the start of our winter holidays.
