Ans: The tradition of manuscript painting in India has seen the contributions of several prominent artists over the centuries are mentioned below: 

(a) Deccani School:

(i) Farrukh Beg: An important artist in the Deccani Sultanates, particularly known for his work during the reign of Sultan Ibrahim Adil Shah II of Bijapur.

(b) Bengal School:

(i) Manohar: Associated with the Mughal court, Manohar was influential in blending Persian and Indian styles in his manuscript paintings.

(v) How did Manuscript Painting influence other forms of art and culture?

Ans: Manuscript paintings were and still prevail to be prestigious identification of India through the medium of art as they were the visual translations of the most pious texts of the country. These paintings were regarded as a medium of proper gifting that was both devotional and precious.

1. What are manuscript paintings? Name two places, where the tradition of manuscript painting was prevalent? 

Ans: Manuscript paintings are graphic translations of poetic lyrics from epics and different canonical, literary, bardic, or music sources (manuscripts), with verses scrawled on the highest area of the artwork in clearly delimited box–like space.

Two places, where the tradition of manuscript painting was prevalent are: 

(i) India (particularly Rajasthan): Rajasthan is famous for its Rajput and Mughal schools of manuscript painting. The Rajput schools, including those in Mewar and Jaipur, produced exquisite illustrations for texts like the Ragamala series and Bhagavata Purana.

(ii) Persia (modern-day Iran): Persian manuscript painting, also known as Persian miniature, flourished under various dynasties such as the Safavids and the Timurids. Artists like Mir Sayyid Ali and Abd al-Samad created stunning miniatures for manuscripts illustrating Persian poetry, historical chronicles, and religious texts.

(iii) Brainstorm illustration: Think about visuals that enhance the chosen excerpts. Images scenes chapters emotion or symbols you can represent through your art style.

(iv) Create the folio: use five pages (or more depending on your chapter) to develop your illustration.

(v) Integrate Text: Carefully position selected passages within your illustration. Ensure the font complements the visuals and remains clearly readable.
