Early life of Nipon Goswami
Nipon Goswami one of the most popular actors from Assam was born on 3 September 1942 at Kolibari, Tezpur, Assam. His father’s name was Chandradhar Goswami and his mother’s name was Nirupama Goswami. Nipon Goswami’s father Chandradhar Goswami was a well-known actor, and his mother Nirupama Goswami was a singer-music composer. He did his later schooling at Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School after his primary education at Kolibari Lower Basic Primary School. From an early age, he got a cultural environment from his home. All his five uncles, including his father Chandradhar Goswami, were involved in acting. Moreover, Bishnuprasad Rabha and Phani Sharma were his neighbors. He became interested in acting by watching plays that were going on regularly in the Bana theatre.
Acting career
As soon as after took the final examination for B.A, he went to Kolkata for an interview at Pune Film Industry and took admission to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Later in 1965, he went to Pune for acting training and there he met Subhash Ghai, Shatrughan Sinha, Naveen Nischal, Jalal Agha, Rehana Sultan, Rakesh Pandey etc. were his classmates. Bollywood actors Danny Denzongpa and Jaya Bhaduri were his juniors. He acted in his first film after completing two years of his acting lessons. While studying at the Pune Film Institute, he was invited to act in Amar Pathak’s film ‘Sangram.’ It was at that invitation that Nipon Goswami first played the role of a hero in the film ‘Sangram.’

Filmography
The first Assamese film to be acted by Nipon Goswami was ‘Piyoli Phukan’ directed by Phani Sharma released in 1957. He acted in that film as a child artist. Sangram was his first Assamese film and a hit film to be acted as a lead actor. After ‘Sangram’, he acted in the film ‘Doctor Bezbaruah’ released in 1969. Dr Bezbaruah brought him recognition as a star to act in many movies in the coming years. Since then, he has acted in more than 100 films. He also acted in various Hindi films.
He continued to do the stage shows in parallel with films. He has also acted in ‘Mobile Theatre’. Goswami has acted in theatres like Kohinoor, Abaahan, Hangul, and Shakuntala at different times. He has also been directing plays along with acting. Both Amateur and mobile dramas have been directed by Goswami. He co-directed the film ‘Pratima’ along with Munin Barua. He also acted in a few television serials like Writu aahe writu jaai. In the meantime, he worked in the Public Relations Department of the Government of Assam, but he took retirement from it.
