14. Explain the commercial uses of algae.
Ans. Gelidium and Gracilaria are source of agar. Porphyra is edible agar. Rhodomela and Polysiphonia are source of bromine. Laminaria and Fucus are source of food, manure, algin and iodine. Sargassum is source of food, manure and algin. Ulva and Chlorella is used as protein supplement in food.
15. Write in detail about female gametophyte in angiosperms.
Ans. Female gametophyte or embryo sacs develop upto 8 nucleate state before fertilization. It has three cell egg apparatus (one egg cell or oosphere and two synergids), 3 antipodal cells and 2 polar nuclei. Two polar nuclei fuse to form diploid secondary nucleus.
