3. Mention the step of substrate level phosphorylation in TCA cycle.
Ans. Substrate level phosphorylation Succinyl CoA is converted to Succinic acid along with GTP / ATP synthesis.
4. What is the first step of Krebs cycle.
Ans. Acetyl CoA combines with oxaloacetate to form citric acid (first product of Kreb cycle) with enzymes citrate synthase.
5. What is the common step in aerobic and anaerobic pathway?
Ans. Glycolysis.
6. What role is played by ATPase?
Ans. ATPase helps in the formation of ATP from ADP, Pi and energy by downward flow of protons.

10. Explain the role of cytochrome c with its location.
Ans. ETC takes place in the inner membrane of mitochondria. Complex III is cytochrome b cl complex. Cytochrome cis a mobile protein carrier that transfers electrons from complex III to IV.
11. Describe the complex IV in ETS of mitochondria?
Ans. Complex IV Cytochrome c oxidase complex. It contains cytochrome a and cytochrome a3 with two copper center.
12. What is the importance of F0 – F1 particles in ATP production during aerobic respiration?
Ans. ATP synthetase (complex V) consists of F0 – F1 particles. F0 acts as channel through which H+ passes from intermembrane space into the matrix. F1 contains the site for synthesis of ATP.
13. What is oxidative decarboxy-lation? What happens to pyruvate immediately after this reaction ? Name the enzyme involved in this reaction.
Ans. One of the three carbon atoms of pyruvic acid is oxidised to carbon dioxide in the reaction known as oxidative decarboxylation. The pyruvate enters Kreb’s cycle as acetyl-CoA. The enzyme involved in oxidative decarboxy-lation is pyruvate dehydrogenase.
14. What is glycolysis? Describe its importance in respiration.
Ans: Glycolysis is the first step of respiration, occurring in the cytoplasm, where one glucose molecule is broken down into two pyruvate molecules. It produces a net gain of 2 ATP molecules and reduces NAD⁺ to NADH. Glycolysis is important because it initiates energy release and provides substrates for aerobic or anaerobic respiration.
15. Explain the role of mitochondria in aerobic respiration.
Ans: Mitochondria are the site of aerobic respiration where pyruvate is fully oxidized. The Krebs cycle occurs in the mitochondrial matrix, producing NADH and FADH₂, which donate electrons to the electron transport chain in the inner mitochondrial membrane, leading to ATP synthesis.
