Ans: The capital of Magadh was Pataliputra. 

(b)  What do we call pataliputra nowadays? 

Ans: We call pataliputra now-a-days Patna. 

(c)  Who was Dhanananda? 

Ans: Dhanananda was the king of ‘Magadha’. 

2. Answer in a sentence :

(a)  What is the difference between wisdom and discretion? 

Ans: Wisdom means intelligence and discretion is the power to think independently. 

(b)  Describe a special feature of Nanda Kings? 

Ans: Nanda kings had established a vast empire by conquering far-off kingdoms. 

(c)  What kind of lion was there in the court of Dhanananda? 

Ans: There was a lion made of wax in the court of Dhanananda. 

(d)  Why did his mother send Chandragupta to the hunters? 

Ans: Chandragupta’s mother sent him to the hunters because she could not feed him and she did not want her son to starve.

(a)  Describe the special feature of the kingdom of the Nanda Kings. 

Ans: The Nanda Kings ruled in ‘Magadha’s. They had established a vast empire by conquering far off kingdoms. They had a large army. The government treasury was filled with wealth. So the rulers of near and distant kingdoms acknowledge their supremacy. 

(b)  What are the qualities of a brave man? 

Ans: A brave man is courageous. He is never afraid of anything. He faces every situation. He is also strong and patient. He never loses heart. 

(c)  How did Chandragupta take the lion out of the cage? 

Ans: Chandragupta observed the lion minutely. He came to know that the lion was made of wax. So he took two torches and stuck them on the lion’s body. The wax melted in the heat. Gradually the lion disappeared and the cage became empty. 

(d)  What kind of life do hunters lead? 

Ans: The hunters led a very difficult life. Their whole life passes in running after wild animals amd facing them. Sometimes they embrace death when some fierce animal attack them. The hunters have to learn how to chase animals and hunt them. They also have to know the nature of wild animals, their behaviour and their marks.
