A. Answer the following questions:

1. What do we use a water tank for? 

Ans: Water tanks are used to store water. They can store hundreds or even thousands of litres of water, often kept on roofs (overhead tanks) or underground.

2. Where is Punjab located on the map of India? 

Ans: Punjab is a state located in the northwestern part of India.

3. How are the water tanks in Punjab made? 

Ans: These tanks are made of cement. First, a frame is made using steel rods, and then concrete is used to give the tank its final shape before it is installed on the roof.

4. How do the unique shapes of water tanks reflect the identity of the house owners? 

Ans: The design often tells something about the people living in the house. For example, a farmer might have a tank shaped like a tractor, bullock cart, or rooster, while someone who likes football might have a tank shaped like a football.

B. Think and answer

1. An overhead water tank is a way to store water. Do you know any other ways of storing water? 

Ans: Yes, there are other traditional ways to store water:

(i) Ooranis: Used in Tamil Nadu.

(ii) Panam Keni wells: Used in Kerala.

(iii) Tankas: Underground tanks used in Rajasthan.

(iv) Rainwater Harvesting: Collecting rain at home.

2. If you had to build a water tank, what would you make it look like? Why?

Ans:  I would build a water tank shaped like a big open book. I would choose this because I love reading and sharing knowledge, just like the people in Punjab choose shapes that show what they love.

C. Read the following.

1. That’s so creative!

3. Hurrah! India has won the match. These sentences are examples of exclamatory sentences. Exclamatory sentences express strong emotions. Can you name any four emotions?

An exclamatory sentence can be identified by the use of exclamatory words like ‘Wow’, ‘Hurrah’, ‘Oh’ and the use of an exclamation mark (!).
