The Frog
Chapter: 5
| Unit – 3: Water |
Let us Think
A. Answer the following questions.
1. Where does the frog like to sit or spend time?
Ans: The frog likes to sit in ponds, in the rain, or hop about in a muddy drain. It also lives in places that are damp with drops of dew on land and water.
2. How does the frog catch its food?
Ans: The frog catches its food by flicking its tongue; it works very fast to catch insects.
3. How does the frog move in water and on land?
Ans: In water, the frog swims with cheer (as a tadpole) and swims with ease using webbed feet,. On land, it hops around, jumps high, and leaps.
4. What helps the frog hide in its surroundings?
Ans: The frog’s colours match the plants and trees, helping it hide well in the grass and leaves.
B. Think and discuss
1. What would it feel like to live like a frog, both in water and on land?
Ans: It would feel wet and adventurous. We would be able to swim easily with webbed feet but also enjoy the breeze while jumping high on land.
2. If you could hop as high as a frog, what fun things would you do?
Ans: If I could hop as high as a frog, I would jump straight up into the sky to feel the joyful breeze against my face. It would be fun to leap high above the ground to see my surroundings from a new height, moving with the same energy and excitement that the frog feels when it hops around.
3. How is a frog’s life different from a fish’s life?
A fish usually stays only in water. A frog lives on land and water too. Also, a frog starts as a “fish-like thing” (tadpole) but grows legs to hop and jump, which most fish cannot do,
4. How are frogs’ webbed feet similar to the flippers used by scuba divers?
Ans: Frogs use their webbed feet to swim with ease. Similarly, scuba divers wear flippers to push against the water efficiently, helping them swim faster and smoother, just like a frog.
