Ans: Rip Van Winkle was a simple, sober and kind man. His only negative quality was his laziness because of which his wife scolded him. One day Rip and his dog climbed to the highest part of the mountain. There he met a man who gave him a glass of pink water to drink. After drinking it Rip fell into deep sleep. When he woke up and went to the village he came to know that he had slept for long 20 years. 

(b)  Narrate what happened when Rip went back to his village after twenty years. 

Ans: Rip went back to his village after twenty years. He noticed that the village had completely changed. The people of the village were also not very familiar to him. He saw that his house had fallen down. People did not recognize him and his dog barked at him. Just then he saw a young woman who looked like his wife. He asked her name and come to know that she was his daughter Judith. He was very happy and the villagers also welcomed him to the village when they came to know that he was Rip Van Winkle.
