Women are a decisive force in socio-economic development and political arena. Women are the organizers and main driving forces of a nation. One of the most important issues of the present is women participating in politics and giving them political power. The political participation of women also reflects the aspect of women empowerment as a whole. Yet the rate of active participation of women in politics in other north eastern states as well as Assam is very disappointing. But in the meantime, some women have actively participated in politics and introduced their strong personalities. One such woman is now Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency MP Queen Ojha. She contested from Guwahati constituency in the Lok Sabha elections from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019.

Even today in the 21st century, it is seen that most women are bound by many limitations. Only a handful of women have actively performed many responsibilities in the social sector in parallel with their personal lives. Queen Ojha is one of the few women to do so.

Queen Ojha is a strong woman who has been active in the political arena in the late seventies, from the early eighties to the 21st century, or the present day. In one word, one of the most successful and strong politicians in the political arena is Queen Ojha. A woman can do different things if she wishes. This has been reflected by Queen Ojha through her work at various times. Queen Ojha, who loved being among people, became involved in active politics by feeling her responsibility towards society as a person living in the society.

Early Life:

Queen Ojha first entered parliamentary politics through a long affair by actively participating in the Assam movement from its very first stage. The Assam movement is one of the strongest student movements in independent India. Assamese people started a massive agitation from 1979 to 1985 against immigrants entering Assam illegally. People from all parts of the state came out to participate in the movement led by The All Assam Gana Sangharsh Parishad and The All-Assam Students Union. Importantly, many other women like Queen Ojha also took to the streets to actively participate in the Assam movement.

Importantly, despite bearing all the responsibilities of a house during the Assam agitation, Queen Ojha went out on the streets to protest against foreigners illegally migrating to Assam on the call of time. Positively, she received the support of all the family members to participate in the movement. Her girl child was nine/ten years old when she actively participated in the Assam movement. Nevertheless, she participated in the Assam movement because of her commitment to society and her love for Assamese land. The role of her husband Devraj Ojha is also undeniable during this period.

The student community alone was not the partner of the Assam movement that was launched to expel foreign outsiders. The role of women in the Assam movement along with the young and old was immense. Importantly, Nagen Sharma formed the All-Assam Female Coordination Guard Committee to organize women during the Assam movement. She issued a memorandum to late Rajiv Gandhi demanding the Assam movement during the agitation Bimala Goswami, Manorama Bhattacharya led by Queen Ojha: Around 20 women went to Delhi and handed over the memorandum to Rajiv Gandhi.

The foreign expulsion movement, which started in 1979, later ended with the Assam Accord signed in 1985 between the Government of India and the leadership of the Assam Movement. Subsequently, the Assam movement was led by the Asom Gana Parishad. And it was this party that formed the government. At that time, Queen Ojha joined the Asom Gana Parishad party as an activist who actively participated in the Assam movement and directly entered the political arena.

A spark of her personal life:

Known as a politician, Queen Ojha was also involved in the cultural world during her childhood. She composed music during her childhood. She also received a degree in music. Apart from this she also learnt musical instrument Violin. She is a culturally minded woman. Also important is that she is an enterprising woman.

According to Queen Ojha, no one can move forward alone. No man should be selfish. A man can move forward only by building a mental relationship with everyone. According to her everyone needs cooperation to move forward in the fight for life.

Queen Ojha continues her efforts to strengthen her steps in the social arena by taking every problem of life as a challenge and by taking her parents as a role model.  

Professional Life & Achievements:

Queen Ojha was closely associated with the Assam Mahila/Female Parishad, the sister organization of the Assam Gana Parishad, formed in 1988.

She was elected mayor from Guwahati in 1996. At that time Queen Ojha was among the public and tried to solve various problems.

Queen Ojha, who also served as chairperson of the Women’s Commission, contested from East Guwahati constituency in the assembly elections from Assam Gana Parishad in 2011 but couldn’t win.

Importantly she resigned from the Assam Gana Parishad in 2014 and joined the Bhartiya Janata Party. She later took over as MP in 2019 after contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency. Queen Ojha is the only woman MP to win from Assam by contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Queen Ojha is a social reality. Social favorite Queen Ojha loves to work for the cause of society by engaging in various social activities. She has introduced her social awareness at various times by engaging with various non-political institutions in parallel with the political arena.  

Queen Ojha was the chairman of the Ulubari High School management committee located in Guwahati. Importantly, Queen Ojha’s father also played an important role in establishing this school.  

Queen Ojha also served as president of Assam Horticulture Society twice. She was also involved with River line Club. The positive thing is that cricket players are trained by those who are interested in cricket through this club. Apart from this cricket tournaments were also held at various times in the initiative of this club.

Queen Ojha was also involved in the Pragjyotika Assam Emporium. She also served as advisor to the Bhupen Hazarika Coordination Council.

Queen Ojha who was associated with Wild life society was a founding member of Assam craft council. Importantly, she was the Chairperson of F ICCI FLO. The full name of FICCI FLO is Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). It is an all-India platform for women. Through which women get a suitable area to trade business.

Queen Ojhawas Industrial Cooperative Bank chairperson. Importantly, Queen Ojha’s father also played an important role in establishing this bank.

Conclusion:

Queen Ojha’s father Madhav Bora was involved in various social activities even though he was not directly involved in the political arena. While involved in social work, various activities were carried out in the Madhav Bora’s industry and efforts but he did not seek any recognition for it. Queen Ojha’s father-in-law was also a social conscious person.

Queen Ojha focuses more on moving on with positive experiences only from the various experiences she has acquired in life. She is not too ambitious about life either. Queen Ojha is satisfied with her own life and what she got.

Today, the participation of women in parliamentary politics has increased but this is not as expected. But in the meantime, it is a positive message that women with strong personalities like Queen Ojha can represent the masses through a long affair. Queen Ojha, who has played a strong role in the political arena through her hard work and sacrifices and not the legacy formula, is undoubtedly a symbol of hope for all women. Not only as a politician but as a strong woman (empowered women), she is an inspiration source for the younger generation.
